Some of this down-time with Abigail has allowed me to catch up on some reading...just a little. My nearly stagnated "Currently Reading" list on the side-bar finally got stirred. Last night I finished Messy Spirituality. So good. I began reading it back in March and shared my first thoughts in this post, In Good Company.
Here's some more good stuff.
"According to his critics, Jesus 'did God' all wrong. He went to the wrong places, said the wrong things, and worst of all, let just anyone into the kingdom. Jesus scandalized an intimidating, elitist, country-club religion by opening membership in the spiritual life to those who had been denied it. What made people furious was Jesus' 'irresponsible' habit of throwing open the doors of his love to the whosoevers, the just-anyones, and the not-a-chancers like you and me." - p. 47Sounds like irrational love to me.

Same thought, different book:
"Two thousand years ago God started a revolt against the religion He started. So don't ever put it past God to cause a groundswell movement against churches and Christian institutions that bear His name. If He was willing to turn Judaism upside down, don't think for a moment our institutions are safe from a divine revolt...I am convinced that there is an uprising in the works and that one one less than God is behind it."
-Erwin McManus, "The Barbarian Way"
Great post. Thanks.
yep, i agree with Z...great post.
First of all...to my 2 faithful commenters - Thank you!
z - what an amazing quote! Clinton has been speaking along these lines at church, he and I talk about it, and others in our church are really seeking Him not merely an "institution that bears His name." It's exciting. God is moving and we want to follow!
Love both quotes! I'm going to show them to Jamie. We've been talking about this too recently.
Thanks for sharing!
April - we are looking so forward to your visit and everything that goes with it like staying up into the wee- hours talking!
