The Shack - William P. Young

I'm afraid if I say too much I'll give too much away. Or, worse yet, by telling you so emphatically to read it, you will become less inclined to do so.

I'll take the risk. Buy or borrow a copy and read it. Do it now.

Some things to consider/remember:
Check your dogma at the door.
Prepare for a creative allegory, evocative of deep emotion and deep thinking.
It is a work of fiction originally written for a private audience, the author's children.
Read the Forward even if you normally don't.

Some quotes that I thought were particularly beautiful.

"So many believe that it is love that grows, but it is the knowing that grows and love simply expands to contain it. Love is just the skin of knowing."

"It is not the nature of love to force a relationship but it is the nature of love to open the way."

It seems much easier to talk about this book rather than write about it. I'm still internalizing. I do know that I will never look at some things the same again. It was humbling and sometimes shocking to see so much of myself on the pages. Even more powerful were the moments when the writer invited me to see God in ways I've never imagined before. It is for relationship we were created. First with Him and then with one another. That is beautifully simple yet we add the (as another reviewer stated) "...do's and don't that distort a relationship into a religion..." and complicate it all.

So, in an effort to stop complicating...
Read it. I'd love to know what you think.

Ditto...thanks for the heads up. And, as far as Eldredge, I've given Captivating as a gift about a hundred times to female friends and acquaintances, and never heard a single complaint. I've read Sacred Romance, and it's like a prequel to Waking the Dead, actually.

Deedee from Love White Linen read this and posted about it a few weeks ago. Sounds interesting....stretching...thought you may want to take a peak at what she said, too. She thought it was very good. Her link is on my sidebar if you want. Miss you! xxoo

I started it yesterday and finished it today. Quite a remarkable book - the first third seems like "not my thing," but the latter two-thirds is thought-provoking and joy provoking.

(Thanks, Jen, for the loaner!) :)

Let's stick to reading and leave the dancing to the pro's. ;)

Anna - So, did you read it?
And what do you mean? You aren't a pro.?! I was sure as we left that I saw the whole reception gathering in a circle around you on the dance floor. :)

Zeph - I've started Sacred Romance and I'm so glad that I have.

Almost finished with it, started last night and I can't put it down. So encouraging, it goes so well along with the "Breaking Free" Bible study that I'm doing. Healing and freedom, GOTTA HAVE IT!!!

Hello! I read this book twice, and I had to skip the first few pages. I am getting back on the plane for Malaysia and will try to read the first few chapters with courage. ( I've met the author and his story is pretty intriguing. He wrote it for his kids as a Christmas present, and the book was emailed around until it was published. ) Jen, thanks for reading it! Sorry for not warning you about the first few chapters.

I read this book in January. I love your write up about it. It's nice to "meet" you. I see we have girls in common. I have three. :)
